The biggest stumbling block I can see here is Slade getting sacked, because any manager with an ounce of sense wouldn't have let him and Jones go out while they were struggling. I reckon a new manager would want to keep him, maybe worth trying to include Beckford as part of the deal.

I agree any manager would want to keep him, but he wants to come back to the north west. There's no point in keeping unhappy players on board but Cardiff will want a fee I should imagine and that's a massive problem for us.

The other problem for us, as mentioned in the article, is that Burnley might fancy him

I think if we do sign him, it will show a real statement of intent by the club.

If the (unfortunately) expected happens and he goes back to his parent club or to another club who offer more cash then I think we should brace ourselves for another mediocre season.

So I'm hopeful if not quite optimistic on this one!
