Like him or not, but McClaren seems to have the respect of other managers/coaches in that they have no qualms about sending out their players to us to improve their game (Ibe, Mascarell and Lingard for example). This has got to be a positive in his favour. Whether any other coach would have the same sway to bring in good prospects on loan remains speculative. Maybe Clement could get us players from Spain, but whether he has a sufficiently endorsed reputation in England at this time remains to be seen.
As we all know McClaren has done himself no favours with the Newcastle situation. His diplomatic answers to the questions about whether he intends to stay or go have only caused tension and unease within the club/team.
McClaren is like marmite. You either like him or not.
Would I like McClaren to stay?...Yes
If he goes, will I be gutted?...No
If Clement comes in I think it could be interesting times ahead.
If Warburton comes in, I would not be disappointed.

did these thoughts come to you while you were eating marmite in the hot tub? ;-)
My take.
With fear of sounding like a rodent, mclaren inherited a decently assembled squad with what appeared from the outside to have a great dressing room full of players who would run through walls for you.
His coaching skills took the squad on , and his reputation allowed the recruitment of excellent loans...Ultimately however, the team failed to reach the promised land.
Season 2 saw more good loans again..but some really poor permanent signings...again bringing questions about his judgement in the transfer market.
It appears the dressing room is now not quite so close knit(may of course not be true..but appears so)
Failure in season 2- poor signings-poor diplomacy on speculation.
Would I like him to go...no.
Would I be gutted if he did noting the above...no

If Warburton comes in, I
1. Not enough account is taken of the injuries to key players.
2. The moans about the Newcastle specualtion have been blown out of proportion
3. If Clough ahd achieved in less than two seasons what McClaren has then people would be lobbying for a Knighthood.
4. If he maintains interest in the league until the final game of the season he has done what can realistically be expected of any manager at this club.
4. Happy for him to stay, not bothered if he moves on - players and managers move on the club remains!
1. Agreed, although the players he played didn't seem to know what was required of them.Originally Posted by swaledale

3. Agreed
4. Given our position at start of year he should have done better. Our players appeared to lose motivation and confidence.
5. He's a good coach but questions remain about his management skills; but he did a goo
I was really pleased when Mac got the job after what he had done with Jim Smith before. His presence and ideas gave us a good season when he first came but now I'm not so sure for the following:-
1 Like many managers he doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes. Teams in the 13/14 season beat our system by playing two banks of four defenders but Mac didn't change anything and we still get beaten by teams playing the same way
2 It was obvious Keogh was not going to be a good captain but Mac still kept him as one.
3 His permanent signings have quite honestly been hopeless.
4 Letting the Newcastle fiasco ramble on ws un excuseable.
5 Maybe his worst failing, regardless of injuries etc. to let our position of top in March to not even in the top six at the end of the season is pathetic. His top point on his CV was 'can motivate players'. He obviouly can't.
Do I want him to stay well lets see who he signs before next season and results in the first 10 games. By then Sam Rush will also kn
Im with most posters if he stays ok if he goes not worried Afraid his permanent signings leave a lot to be desired Plus the Newcastle farce something about that still does not ring true for me On the evening of Sat 2nd of May Newcastle contacted Mac to see if he would take charge for the last 3 matches who from Derby gave them permission to speak to him Anybody Know because someone has were they hoping he would take it something not right somewhere
Given that the season had ended i guess the Derby board thought **** it, let newcastle make an offer and see what happens - one thing that Rush and the board aren't afraid to do is take a tough decision and it seems they plan well before doing that -not a knee jerk reaction and then fanny around trying to find a replacement.
