Jezo...if the British Army had the same aim 'to win' they would have killed ***dreds of republicans...

The fact they didn't shows that it wasn't a war..

The IRA's actions were either to murder or destroy.

The British Army had different objectives..peace keeping etc.

To compare the two is bizarre.
Good luck with Scotlandfirst Neil, he seems to suffer from selective reading through tinted specs.

I think it rather silly to try to deny that there's innocent victims, and blood on the hands, on both sides.

Thankfully both Windsor and Adams speak of reconcilliation and moving on.

I think it's time to look to a brighter future rather than viewing the past through a biassed prism
I agree that it is time to look to the future. But sometimes that can be hard when one group of people are constantly dragging up the past.

And it aint the British Military.

No all that shows is that they decided that to do that wouldn't help them to achieve their main objectives. There were certainly people calling for this very action to be carried out. It's pretty obvious that it would have been counter-productive.

To say it was a war is outrageous but if we go along with that view point then there are rules as already pointed out!! Z

To say that an ongoing situation which involves two military forces fighting and killing each other with guns and bombs isn't a war is just ridiculous.

And to say that it is a war is to say that it has no rules.
'Two military fighting forces' ???

Eh, one wore a uniform and protected the public the other sneaked around at night putting bombs under people's family cars.
Alas it wasn't as black and white as that neilo - the British Army also sneaked around at night putting bombs under people's cars or aided and abetted those who did. And as for protecting the public -

Agree with you AGIK more or less.
I must admit that I'm generally more sympathetic towards the Irish side-after all it was their country-but I can still see both sides of the picture. Whilst I regard british soldiers as the enemy I don't take any pleasure in them being killed.

It's a problem with the brits that they have this 'my country right or wrong' attitude. They find it impossible to ever see anybody else's perspective.

    That's their loss I guess. :/
