    balanced moderating

With good reason from time to time, mods do step in to address problems with posts and their contents.

There are certain cases where consistency may perhaps not always be applied.

A recent example, where a poster was rapped on the knuckles for trawling older posts and presumably reigniting negativity.

That's fair enough. However what about the constant & relentless negativity generated by a certain poster on the board (no need to and shame)? The posts are boring &repetitive, obviously delivered with vitriol of a very bitter person indeed. These posts not only poison the air on the message board, but often suffocated interesting contributions from other posters.

This is not a rant, but a polite observation and something I feel that other posters share a view on.

I have in the past taken a break from the forum, as it gets tedious reading what start out as interesting posts, but turn into 'one V one' slagging matches between the main perpetrator and his target.

I think firstly we are just regular posters with a few extra buttons which believe me do not go to your head.

No one can be carded or banned unless all 4 mods agree it justifyable

I agree to your second point but why the need for old posts to be bought back and it wasn't just one. Three old posts resurfaced so I support ramondo with that. There was no need for them to reappear.

The poster in question could have just as easily started a new post based on his previous ones. By doing that as mods we don't have to go looking back and checking over 3 old posts. I read through loads of posts a day to keep this forum safe for all ages and it can get annoying when posts from a year ago reappear!

Now to the negativity, what makes these message boards interesting and keeps them busy is the difference of opinions we all have. I've found most people on these forums play out a character and are very different in real life. I can vouch for this as I've met so many of our board regulars.

As a matter of interest, how many 'ordinary' members need to agree before a mod is carded or banned?

    re: balanced moderating

Let me make something quite clear.

I am a poster on this board. I was invited by the site editor to act as a moderator as well, but that is all. I have no control in how the overall site is run, I have no control over other moderators. I, like Chris and Rattea, will continue to post and be a moderator unless 1) I choose to step down or 2) the site editor decides to remove my moderator status.

Any problem you may have with a specific moderator should be taken up with them and the site editor. in Ratteas case, it has nothing to do with me and I'm fed up of being dragged into it. I don't decide who moderates and who doesn't, any action taken against a moderator has to come from Bloomer. Nothing anybody does will ever please everybody.

I think people sometimes perceive moderating to be more involved than it actually is. But you want to look round other sites and even some other FM boards if you want to see how 'balanced' the moderating is on here, coz the're are some right
