    Transfers

Just a thought. We are supposed to be signing several players shortly including Darren Bent and Pearce from Reading. My thought is do we know that the new manager (probably Paul Clement) actually wants any of them? On the other hand is Chris Evens choosing the players and the new manager will be told to make do with them.

As you say, we are in the closing stages of possible signing Bent, but if Clement says no he won't sign. With Pearce, my view is hat he's in our short list and as such we must speak with his representatives (as other clubs are also talking to him), but if Clements says no...then the discussions cease. I you take the situation with Billy Davies when he was at Forest...,,he wanted Leadebitter from Boro...that's who he wanted so they wet out an tried to get him - they failed and were subsequently left with a void.

Evans' job is to act as our scout an agent and get a list of potential candidates and ensure that we are in a position to move if te manager gives him the nod...Evans will ensure we have the budget in terms of fees (if necessary) and wages beforehand. If they are out of our reach then there not on the short list.

At the end of the day he will be joining a club whereby in theory he may not want ANY if the players he's inherited. However, he will have two work with what he's go

I feel sure Clement has been "In the loop" for a while & is well aware of Evans targets. I guess we will all get a clearer picture within the next two weeks, as soon as Paul Clement has analyzed what we have & what we need.
Exciting times between now & August.

On that basis Chris...as it's from you I take as a given.

Please, can someone tell me, is Pearce any good? Will he be missed by Reading for example? He does stand out as a household but conversely he could be a solid member of the squad...but he just doesn't stand out for me in terms of recollections?

I've seen today that we are being linked with Jordan Rhodes again. Well 'Boro have been linked regarding a £6m bid and we are linked along with Forest. Is this just lazy journalism again or are we considering him after being linked initially in January?

    re: Transfers

I can't see Rhodes, purely from a fee perspective...we would ha to break our transfer record...outside of the Premier League?!?!

It is players of Rhodes calibre that we need for promotion. Imagine Martin, Bent, Rhodes and the likes of Russell supporting them.

However we need to sort our defence first and foremost is ALL areas...including goalkeeper and defensive midfield. Hopefully the Italians defensive mindset has brushed off enough in Clement to ensure we concede at less goals.

A few Quotes from a reading forum

Gets on with it. Makes mistakes but mostly effective. A leader on the pitch. Not the sort of player we should be losing at this point in time.

If he goes to Derby I'll be bloody glad I didn't renew my ST

Pearce is no real loss tbf. No pace, turning circle of a cart horse and he's on big wages. Happy to see him go. We have to accept this is going to be a very messy season with a lot of changes, but we can start the building process and in a few years hopefully see the rewards.
