You're up early Rates new dawn. It is a risk I agree but calculated. Let's hope he succeeds. Hope you get behind him.

I agree it's a risk but then isn't every managerial/coach appointment? He has a very good CV and he must of impressed when interviewed so like any other job he was who the board wanted. I think we have to congratulate the board and Sam Rush on knowing who they want and going out to get him. They knew they wanted McLaren at the time so quickly got rid of Clough and we had a hell of a ride for two years. Now they quickly got rid of McLaren when things weren't so good and are moving on. Here's to next season and welcome to Paul Clement who is coming to a proud club who will get right behind you ( most will anyway). Also quick thank you to McLaren I think you did a good job and took us the next level playing good attacking football and very unlucky not to get us promoted. Let's hope Clement can take us to the next stage.

I think the appointment of any manager is a risk as is the signing of any player

Derby have definately done there homework on this guy as he has in us and his pedigree in terms of experience as a coach is second to none. He should make the step up an easy one

    Good luck to him

Agree, any appointment is a risk, but lets at least give the guy a chance, he seems to have the right pedigree.

I agree with Swaledale, slightly unhappy with this appointment, but I'm willing to give the fella a chance.

I'm just happy that the club have looked outside of the bag of "usual suspects" and decided to take a bit of a risk - if it goes wrong I, for one, won't be criticizing them for that. If it does go wrong then, as with all things that present a problem, it's all about how you go about resolving the situation. So I reckon it's well done to the owners and management and here's hoping this admirable decision gets the success it deserves.

That's pretty much how I feel.

He's completely unproven. As a coach he's got a great pedigree, no doubts there. But does that mean he can manage?

No, it doesn't. But at the same time, it doesn't mean he can't either.

I know he's first team 'coach', a new buzz term in football instead of saying 'manager' but there really isn't that much difference, aside from the amount of time spent watching other teams players. He still has to 'manage' the team day to day, not just 'coach' them. And that's where the difference lies.

So I'm not going to start waving a flag with his face on just yet and crowing about what a great appointment it is. As Rattea says, it's a risk and one that we all hope pays off.

So he'll have my backing and I look forward to seeing what happens from now on. But I have no idea what that may be!

I don't think it's necessarily a buzz word, rather a newish way if running a club. If there wasn't any differences managers like wenger wouldn't be so adverse to coaching in that format. I get what your saying ray but I think being head coach rather than sir Alex esque furher will take the pressure off and give him time to bring the best out of our players. Hopefully.
