Been enjoying the contributions on this site for a while but on a day which seems like a good opportunity for a fresh start this is my first post so make of it what you will. Today's eventual announcement is surely a positive move. As far as Clough and McClaren are concerned they are yesterday's men. Both had their strengths but ultimately failed and it's time to move on. The appointment of Paul Clement is, imo, a brave and ambitious move. Let's get behind both him and the players, many of whom appeared to suffer an alarming loss of confidence at the back end of last season. What's done is done, time for a clean slate for all concerned and time to look forward to next season with renewed optimism and rebuilt confidence.

He might be a risk but could be a very exciting risk. I'm pleased he's come to us, highly regarded and hopefully will attract the players required to take us to the next level.
Best of luck to him and pleased DCFC acted quickly so he has time with the players.

If only, could do with that sort of contract!
Yes good luck to the new guy. Not really expecting much in 2015-16 as it will be a transformation season. Season 2016-17 we should be in autos or play offs at least. So that will be the time to consider judgement on this appointment.Originally Posted by chris311080
Like always, I will give anyone appointed as manager (or head coach) to our club time to see what he can do.
I'm excited by the fact that he seems very well respected by those IN the game and maybe, if we can sort our defence out, he could make swifter progress than a proven manager within our budget.
If Thorne and Martin both are able to get a full pre-season in, we should be starting with a decent set of midfield and attacking tools ( not meant in the derogatory sense)
However, reading the BBC site summary of the appointment, it makes the point that:
"Clement has worked with some of the biggests in world football including Didier Drogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo"
Its going to be a test for him when they are replaced, by Connor Sammon, Ryan Shotton and Simon Dawkins. Let's see what happens.
At least all the uncertainty with SMac has gone and relatively early enough for Clement to have a say in incomings / outgoings.
Completely agree with your last sentence Rob. As far as Dawkins, Shotton and Sammon are concerned, perhaps playing them in their best positions might help. Personally I'm convinced Dawkins is wasted out wide and Shotton has hardly been given a chance to settle. Must have been close to MOM against Watford but has never had the chance to establish himself in one position. Not sure what Sammon has to offer other than effort, but a coach who understands players strengths and the need to organise the team accordingly has got to be an improvement.
He is a risk, so was hiring a non-league manager with no professional experience. So was hiring a manager that had mostly recent failures on his record including just down the road...
Saying it is a risk is a completely pointless comment, oh he's a risk? Who would come in and be sure fire to take us up?
I agree with you. Any company that hires a new employee in any capacity is taking a risk, however if said employee has the potential & is given the tools to do the job there is no reason he cannot succeed. As someone said it is refreshing to see Paul Clement rather than one of the "Old gang" that continue to do the rounds at this level.Originally Posted by tomsdubs
