When will we actually sign someone?

Our team atm is looking to weak for league 1.
I think we need to get Ness back, improve an offer for greg leigh (surely with Grant and Toots gone we can), and try and sign a midfielder similar to Grant but slightly more attacking.

Personally, I think it would be wrong to put an increased offer on the table for Leigh. Because the loss of Grant, which we all knew about when Leigh was being made the offer, and Tootle I don't think means we should be throwing that money at any one individual. We do need a left back but just as Leigh and Colclough's respective agents will be touting them all round the country to secure an extra £100 a week I am in no doubt that the phone line to Steve Davis will have been hot with people doing the same thing for their charges. We will sign someone when it is right for the club to do so. I know enough about it to know that Messrs Davis, Baker and Bowler have more of an idea than I have about who is right and who isn't.

When will we actually sign someone?

The answer to the original question is, from the past two years experience, mid September till we get our behinds in gear.

My view is that we have recently spent the last few seasons with several loanees and freebe signings which has resulted in a mixed bag of players. Surely when we have them on loan that is the time we can judge if that player would suit us. If they are then sign them. Offer them that extra 100 pounds a week. Surely that expense will be covered by the fact we will start the league a lot stronger and therefore more chance of a higher league position/ more of a cup run especially in the league cup. That all equals more money. I know we have a strict budget but we must be paying way under teams in our league as you can see by how players have been quick to move on.

If again we don't have a team sorted before the season starts then we really need to look into our recruitment properly. Didn't we hire a scout two years ago? What has he done?

I think you will find that the difference is more than £100pw
When some of Man Citys 16 year olds are on £3000pw and that player from there the other year George Evans? was on more than SD

I bet the most we could offer Leigh wss about half his City's wages
Harry Redknapp said that it was crazy that some 18 year olds were on £5000 a week and living that lifestyle.
The club cannot afford this sort of money

if we cant get players who have played for prem clubs - lets go back to what we used to do

    pick up from non league
sure someone who is useful in non league will only be getting a basic wage from his employer plus expenses from a non league club

lets trawl the irish leagues - conf north - scotish league 2 or highland league -welsh leagues

Reading got lots of players from ireland
    so do wolves
