    Smoke here, obliterating the mountains three miles away, from numerous wildfires that have plagued the Western provinces this summer.

    Fire outside Kelowna, a city of over 100,000 is threatened by wildfires burning across the BC Interior.

    Thank you for your concern, BW, no I didn't take them, it would have been a bit too close for comfort!

    Those pictures are from the interior, a drive-a-ways from me, thankfully. A fire can spread faster than a man can run, so it is just as well as I wasn't there at the time with my pointed stick and bag of marshmallows!

    Some stunning pictures surfacing however:

    Out-of-control fire closest to me is the one in Sechelt, about 25 miles away...as the crow flies. Fortunately, there is a body of water separating us, though not very wide.

    We received some rain on Saturday and a bit on Sunday, fire worries have lessened a bit here in BC. Saskatchewan is much worse off. Firefighters being backed up be Canadian Army Reserves; foreign firefighters have come in for supporter from New Zealand, Mexico, and several other countries.

    The stats as of today in the province of 1,000,000 is:

    -the present number of fires burning out of control is 119;

    -total number of fires this summer are 604;

    -13,000 evacuees in shelters.

    Always some folks worse off somewhere.
