Thread: Keith Andrews

    Keith Andrews

See that former Rovers player Keith Andrews has just retired,to take up some coaching position at MK Dons.

Probably one of the most unfairly treated of all players at Ewood by a large chunk of our supporters.Regularly booed. Why Ill never understand. Not skilfull Id agree, but always gave his best, scored goals(a good penalty taker)could play in many positions but as he wasnt pleasing to watch unfairly pillaried IMO.

A bit like years ago just before we won the Premiership,Id always get into arguments with other Rovers fans, whod tell me Paul Warhurst was the best thing since sliced bread, could play any position(which to be fair he could) so why did Dalglish always prefer Mark Atkins in midfield who couldnt pass, couldnt tackle, and couldnt run much with the ball. Because Atkins COULD score from 30 yards, just like Shearer,Id retort! Atkins was also regularly booed, but did have the consolation of picking up a Premiership winners medal, something far better midfielders like Steve Gerr

Bob - his lack of skill showed up in the PL, but fans' reactions can't have helped his confidence.
Funnily enough, we could have really done with a player like him at times last season. At his best, the Championship would probably have been the ideal level for him.

He was with us at Wolves as a young player and could always make and see a good pass. When Glenn Hoddle became manager, I thought Keith would go on to great things, but something wasn't right and he could not command a regular place in the side. Perhaps it was because he did not charge about the pitch clattering into the oposition. A very underrated player in my opinion.

Abbo - he seemed to lose that ability to play a telling, attacking pass at Rovers. In fact, we have had a bit of a plague of players who won't/can't pass more than about ten yards!
In Andrews' case, it was almost certainly a loss of confidence. You aren't going to risk adventurous passing if you get booed whenever it goes wrong.
By the end, he looked hopeless, but I accept he didn't get any favours at Ewood.
