    re: Mel buys the Rams

    I was told about this back in May when he and Rush flew off to America, the time he reinvested back in to the club with his 22%. I got a call from a mate to say that Mel Morris was flying to America to buy Derby County. I didn't post anything at the time given the sensitivity of the topic but did tell a couple of my closest Ram friends. I really hope this works out, there is no doubt in my mind where he wants to see us.

    i think this explains quite a lot that was discussed on a previous thread about why there has been a change in business model.
    A strictly business group would be unlikely to invest in the way Derby have this summer without having some passion for the club.

    Congratulations Mel, an excellent purchase!

    Don't know what to make of this...several people that are Billionaires being replaced by a single person worth millions and spending a lot of money almost instantly...back to the Lionel boom and bust days? I hope not!

    I'm with you RB. It feels as if the safety net has been removed! Given the cost of buying the club and the amount (transfers and wages etc) over the length of contracts half of mels windfall from king.com must be gone or close. Surely he wants to keep a big chunk for himself.

    In terms of the football world and money Mel isn't a big player really. Unless he has other ways of finding. I hope he's not going to risk all like Lionel did!

    Manx my next doors dog told me but I didn't want to hurt his feelings and even tho I comment on nearly every thread I just didn't on this one. I know it sound like rubbish but it's true honest

    problem is rats you would find fault with anything anyone and are really not a true supporter . now we have a new owner .you may get over your obsession with nigel clough. and as the club is moving forwards perhaps the site could move forwards.

    "Happy days" - well we won't know until we see whether Mel's model and vision for the Rams works out.

    Much as I despise Rattea's many attempts to prove he is really the only one who understands what is happening at the club, I don't think being sceptical makes him not a true supporter. There are good grounds to be uncertain.
    One-man ownership of football clubs has a mixed history .

    We can now recall the statement " an experienced manager would want to dictate what happens" and understand better where it was coming from. The problem is whether Mel's vision and understanding is better than an experienced manager and why he wanted a rookie..

    Rattea be careful what you do with that dog you could end up with a bad! My best mate has a box at I pro and from time to time tells me things, some of which have turned out to be true and some not. It's not good starting rumours especially about interfering with next doors dog.
    Back to topic and could clearly go one of two ways. For now he has my best wishes, full backing and I hope he realises his dream.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Agree 100%.. I find this news a little concerning.. Football makes people irrational at times, including people with loads of money.. He is no different from any of us, you only have to read a few posts on here lately.. Buy him.. Don't worry about the cost etc... Just because he is a good businessman does not necessarily make him a good owner of a football club.. Fawaz for example... Classic bull in a china shop..

    At least with the North Americans there was a detached steadying influence.. He is now the 'sole' owner of the club.. What about the checks and balances..
    Fingers crossed.. Come on Mel don't let me down.
