    re: Mel buys the Rams

I must be the only one happy at this news!
Whilst I take on board the detached steadying influence and safety net etc.....the reality is that the plan from the investment group to get us being a steady premier league club failed....

Investment group being key words...they invested at minimal level...although covered debts ...on the hope we could get up and they could reap their investment rewards with sky money etc...plus the club being worth more.
Mel appears to be doing this in a different way....the other way failed.
Not knowing the ins and outs of the financing of recent transfers ..it's difficult to comment I would suggest.
Rich ,local fan as an owner...all big ticks for me....and what people were crying out for not too long ago.

Like others have said I have few concerns for the reasons stated. He is a multi-millionaire (£500m so I believe), but not in the same league as some of the North American owners. At some point he will look at his dwindling fortune and think, enough is enough, or more likely his family will.

I have no doubt he is a Ram, through and through, but I would have felt better if the North American consortium were still there in the background.

    Let's see what happens.

He's a genuine fan and that is a big tick in the box for me. If we hit the PL the gamble has paid off financially for him, us, the club so a potential big tick their too. Off course there is a flip side but i'm not dwelling on that. Things could be a lot worse, you could be watching you fiercest rivals make key signings, have some direction within their club all whilst they enjoy their own magic carpet ride.

It's an interesting one. The American group are of course more wealthy but that counts for little if their financial commitment to the club is restricted. Deeper pockets with locks on them are not better than shallow ones that are open.

No one can doubt MM commitment as shown this summer but do not mistake his net worth of 400m+ for available cash to invest. His assets may be in cash or may be in a less liquid form I don't know. So be grateful for what we have seen but do not mistake this for a regular open tap, kids.

It will be interesting to see the new board structure - a couple of strong NED's would be very reassuring.

All in all its a bit like Gadsby+: local fan with the resources to take us forward that PG didn't by his own admission have. However let's hope it's not a Doughty type deal with its subsequent complications.

Onward and upward and if your read this email Mel, my email is...

I am happy, but just have a few reservations and concerns, as it normal I guess. The unknown

If I am a bit nervous about it all, what the hell must MM be thinking?

Couldn't care less who knew what and when. Always liked the idea of a genuine lifelong fan being heavily involved in the running of the club but share the misgivings of the likes of Rambusta, Angry and OTR.
For those of us who aren't business/economic experts it would be nice to have an objective assessment which falls somewhere between the doomongers and the rose tinted glasses brigade.
