Thread: Did we miss a trick?

re: Did we miss a trick?

I've watched them play 3 times this season. They are anti-possession. Long balls to Donaldson. Work the channels. Quick-counters with Gray. Out balls to Magohma - who is a quality player IMO.

You have to laugh at Rats. But I'll let him have his opinion.

I've been at coaching sessions with Gary Rowett where he has explained his philosophy of football. I've chatted to him one-2-one about it. I've seen him coach teams – I know what he's asking of them. He was a product of the Cambridge United "John Beck" style of football. And I'm not against that either. It's horses for courses. When you haven't got the dough to compete with some of the better footballing sides you have to come up with a strategy. Gary Rowett is a very good manager.

(When you don't know about a subject it's usually best to say nothing as you don't want to make yourself look even more stupid than usual hey)

Maybe you ought to take your own advice Rat?

Apart from the fact that if you watch them it isn't long ball in the slightest. Merely by the fact it's been admitted they use the channels proves as much if you can't se it yourself.

Oh and the fact I work with a load of blue noses who are saying it's not to not be playing long ball too!

For those who want to actually know what long ball is just google Cambridge when doom Dublin played for them.

Simple Google the highlights against us this season and you'll see something totally different .... Counter attacking I think you may find .... Unless you like an eclipse .... Not too bright!

I don't need to watch the highlights – I've seen 3 full Birmingham City matches. The gist of it is that they bang it up to Clayton Donaldson within 2/3 passes.

If he was at DCFC it would be labelled "hoof-ball" very quickly.

I'm not knocking his methods, but we're a bit more discerning around these parts.

    If God had intended... etc.

That's not necessarily the case, it's often how good a pack he is dealt with by the previous manager. Frank Clark inherited Brian Clough's relegated pack and immediately got promotion back to the Premiership and the following season became runner's up in the Premiership. When he left Forest he became manager of Manchester City and took the team down to the Third Tier. Usually managers who build successful sides are normally head hunted long before they really achieve anything.

So many factors affect the success or otherwise of a manager yet it all seems so simple from the stands!!

Can't see how we missed a trick with Rowett, we'd have been going backwards to the reason why Clough was appointed - association with club, cheap and local. Think Clement was a well reasoned choice, time will tell whether it was or not.
