    Derby County The Global Brand

    Remember the big claims by I think it was Appleby about turning the club into a global brand. Did seem silly at the time and a big ask to say the least. Probably easier to boil the ocean if I am honest. 8 years ago that comment came out and I'm not sure if it were to wow fans or what really.

    So I was thinking about this the other day. What has changed. Well we are far at the moment from being a global anything! But I think what has changed is we have become a local brand.

    I don't like this and stay solid on that issue. Maybe I am a traditionalist but that has changed in n the club. Been talking to a few of the "old timers" from the 80s recently and all have commented on the same thing in different ways without exception.

    Did Tom Glick deliver this no! I'm not sure he had a chance with restructuring but don't know that for sure. But over the last few years the club has been set out almost brand like.

    Some good points but I don't think anyone who really understands DCFC bought into the 'global brand' nonsense. I had forgotten about Glick ..... thought we were all done with that ?

    I'm not quite sure what you mean by being 'Less fan focused'

    I would say that under Rush we've become far more fan focussed. Moving the away fans from the South Stand, creating the Fan's Park, regular events to gauge fan opinions and no reduction in the previously superb outreach work. Latterly of course there has been the free scarves, support for the 1884 Group and the frozen season ticket prices. The only three really weak areas are the 'megastore', the concourse catering and the half-time entertainment/PA and music. The first two were contracted out under Glick, so hardly fair to blame Rush. The club have attempted numerous consultations designed to improve the 'matchday' stuff, and had tried to alter things. However, although lots of people hate fan cam and goal music, very few actually workable suggestions are ever made.

    Although prices have gone up a little, DCFC tickets are clearly affordable still as we have 24,000 season ticket holders and our stadium is on average 87.

    Rattea - genuine question: why do you support the club? seems that you haven't liked or agreed with the majority of things that have happened in the past 30 odd years - either that or you're on some elaborate wum exercise (though I must admit you've got some stamina to have kept it up for so long if that's the case....). I said it was a genuine question and it is (I sit at the match with someone with a similar outlook - I've asked him a number of times why he keeps going (and has for the past 35 years), but he's never really been able to answer)...if I felt the same level of negativity, I think I'd lose interest (or chuck myself under a bus)

    Whats happened is we now have local ownership and Derby as a "local brand" if one must call it that, is sensible marrying of the realities of financing a successful football club which still stays true to its fan base.

    I don't think you can attribute it to both Sam Rush and local ownership. the two don't meet! Completely and utterly different positions. It's been going on longer 12 months it's one or the other!

    OK less fan focused I actually I probably worded wrong. But I am looking forward and Premiership when I think of this. Talking to a West h'am fan who never shuts up about the Chicken Run if I am honest. However if we were to get promoted the attendances become almost negligible. Gate money is a fraction of everything. Ramondo was a big one on talking about this. So the West ham fan says the focus shifts. The ground will fill itself more or less as we saw losing every game and attendances rising even at Derby. Look at Stoke they haven't changed their ground from the 3rd division days 20 years ago.

    Cornwall - Merchandising I agree is poor I looked in there the other day. Selection and quality. So that doesn't fit with branding and starts to defeat my initial comment. Catering has alwa

    It's obviously a glass-half full/glass half empty sort of thing if you don't see it as negative Rats - my oberservation is that the majority of your postings relating to the running of the club seem to be looking for the downside and picking fault - that's why I asked the question....
    I started supporting (as in avidly following our fortunes) in Clough's days (though I was only 5 or 6 at the time) - I've had a season ticket since 1982/83 so pretty much during our darkest days when we we minutes from going out of business - perhaps why I see things currently as pretty positive...
