A question for the older members.

When was the last time we had a squad as strong as we do now?

Apart from 1968 to 1977 I would say this squad (see the link) - view external link

We have a squad that is unproven at the top level, so yes we have had better squads. Jim Smiths Igor, Biano team for example.

How many of this squad realistically do you think will play in a Premier League DCFC team? Some maybe at the beginning but only a couple I would say.

    Hughes
    Johnson (poss)
    Carson
    Shackell (poss)
    Thorne
    Butterfield

    Jury is out on.

    Martin
    Russell
    Ince
    Weimann
    Bryson

It's a strong squad for the Championship for sure but I doubt the PL.

Was it 1989 when we had them likes of Wright, Saunders, Mcminn, callagahan etc. We were a few players short of title challenging.

Now this I don't get... Shackell made more tackles than any other defender in The Prem with Burnley..... Martin is just a better version of Giroud... Hughes will struggle to get in this side yet he`ll easily manage in Prem...Cason isn't big enough for Prem he drops corners now let alone then...Agree Weiman but if we had a Gayle or Wilson Vardy type player we would rip this league then what happens happens... who would thought Wes Morgan & Jami

Jim Smith's squad was where my mind immediately went.

re: A question for the older members.

The DT recently ran a story for fans to nominate the best ever Rams team. The following suggestion was featured among the fans' suggestions:

Butland; Brayford, Moore, Shackell, C Forsyth; Ward, Bryson, Oakley, Ibe; Commons; Martin

Now I appreciate that the suggestion probably came from a 12 year old (was it you, TMDS?) but 2 of those players are not even DCFC players!! So clearly its all about opinion as to who are our best players, and "beauty lies in the eye of the beholder". Consequently what we perceive as our best ever squad varies in direct relationship with ones age I suspect - we all love the first team we saw at our first game.
