There is no proof I know that Newcastle did speak to SMac while he was our manager - I didn't say there was.
However when Derby fans were after some reassurance from him over media reports of his interest in the Toon job, he spectacularly failed to give it.
Both Rowett and Jimmy H expressed an interest in other positions and left in the right way. They furthered their careers with bigger clubs and acted honourably in doing

The way things have panned out suggests there COULD HAVE BEEN mutual interest from SMac and Toon.
Or maybe just the continued denied speculation just highlighted to SMac that the Toon job was vacant AFTER he was sacked.

Not sure why your're quoting me on this one Akwes, but for what it's worth, McClaren wasn't 'useless' at Derby. He was excellent for fifteen months or so, then had his head 'turned' and it all went horribly pear shaped. I recognise of course that finishing 3rd and 7th is something Forest can only dream of. ;-)
Agree with that Anagram, JFH was obviously destined for bigger things and London is a big draw for many people in the game. I am not a betting man, but if I were it would be safe to have a punt on Nigel being at Burton Albion longer than Jimmy FH is at QPROriginally Posted by AnagRam
