19 things we remember about the BBG!

We would say this wouldn't we, but it really was a very unique & special football ground.

How many current posters had the pleasure of the BBG?

Thanks to DET for some really excellent memories... - view external link

More time spent at BBG than I care to remember - top of head memories:

Big Roger scoring all 5 vs Luton

Derby 2 Forest 0 in the FACup

Queuing for hours to see King Charlie's second coming

Bobby Davidson's goal on his return on loan

    Goddard / Saunders terrorising defences

The fog descending vs Burnley in the FA cup

Things will never be quite the same away from the BBG

Loads of memories...including our 3rddivision campaign .a memorable match beating Rotherham 2-1 to get promoted .,a midweek match ..Christie scoring if I recall....a great atmosphere...and in the third division...just one of my favourites as it brought us back into "proper football"-again

The sand in the late '70's.

Coming away from Derby beating Gunners 3-2 after being 0-2 at HT and hearing a Gooner saying:

" Fack me... Liam Brady can walk on water ...bat 'e can't ran on sand'.

Wish I could remember which manager it was that was heard to say "the only thing that pitch was fit for was a remake of Ben Hur"!!!

Penalty spot had to be re-painted for Gerry Daly to score vs Man City

For the younger posters watch the YouTube footage of the FAC Q-f vs Newcastle - 4-2 and four of the best goals you will ever see (George , Newton & Rioch)

i was at that match the night i found out how sardines in a tin feel . it was manic i was so crushed up in the normanton terrace i could not move my arms away from my side . and of course there were those awful fences you had a job to see through . but it all turned out good in the end .but the freshest memory is the walk from the top i think of pear street to the bbg it seemed to take forever ,because my dad said the further we are away from the ground the better chance we have of getting away quicker

That Rotherham game was a Friday night, I stood in the Columbo and the whole place swayed as one. Rubbish game and we'd missed a hatful of penalties leading up to it. I remember Stuart Webb getting shouted over and having tears in his eyes when he arrived at the popside. BBG was the best place in the world to be for midweek games under the lights, it seemed magical as a young lad. Davison was deadly one on one as was Saunders. Beating Leeds to get promotion was brilliant and the win on the last day against Fulham to stay up. Great days.

Could go on forever!! Debut in 1955 with my wonderful uncle Tom, kids corner, 2 cheerleaders 1 with rattle 1 with bell, becoming a popsider, punch up after Liverpool game when Curry was smashed into railings by Ron Yeats, Tommy Powell mesmerising full backs, Ken Oxford picking fights with goal posts, Reg Matthews doing Alex Dawson, reserves winning the Central League Championship, McGovern scoring against Liverpool and us going on to win the League One Title, 5-0 against Spurs, beating Real Madrid, Jim Smith got us going when the changeover came with his foreign imports and so it goes on. Sigh!!
