A wide player and a defensive midfielder it is then. With Kante gone I guess Drinkwatwr and Mahrez will do

I've just looked on wikipedia, and of all the £25m/£300,000 a week wages players we've transferred in since July 2015, I can't honestly see one that's an improvement on what was here before. It strikes me that there should be a bit of quality control exercised before rushing to buy - 'Any position, but not a chunk of ****' would be a great mantra.

But I agree with RamAnag, a defensive mid to release Hughes would be priority, and hopefully between Martin Bent and Wilson we can score enough goals.
    Really!!

Wisdom was solid in defence ,hardly any got the better of him , which is the main job of a right back , as for attacking very good in my opinion. Remember the goal for Martin away at Barnsley a couple of years ago

Thinking the same, barnstorming run and pinpoint cross. Christie's okay, can be very good, but imo Wisdom has never been replaced. Good appearance record too, which is important in my book.

'cast offs' are necessarily better than those on their way up from the lower leagues but a leader - who can also preferably play the Thorne role and 'release' Hughes - together with a goal scorer would make a huge difference imo.
They can and always have been able to register players until the closure of the transfer window, however you are correct in that by this time, most prem clubs know who their over 21 players will be and start releasing those who wont have a chance of being selected for the first team for loans. Given that the emergency loan option is no longer available, it may be that there will be more action prior to the closing of the window than has been the case previously.

Wisdom is a good defender but team defence is also about distribution and his was appalling. No point in stopping an attack just to set up another and another! How many times did he have a barnstorming run with a good cross at the end of it? My memory might be failing but I don't remember too many.

You and I agree that Christie is more of right sided attacking midfielder rather than a quality defender.

We already have the defensive man to help Hughes in George Thorne....just need to get him fit ASAP.

We do indeed KCG...far more attributes as a right sided midfielder than right back for me.

Luckless...at his best I think Thorne is one of the best two players in our squad, the sort of player to build a team around as he proved in McClaren's 'nearly' season. Sadly though we rarely see him for more than 60% of a match and, through no fault of his own, his appearance record is dreadful. We can't just keep hoping. According to today's DT, Pearson seems to have little idea of when he'll be fit again. Think we have to find a replacement, free up Hughes and Bryson to do what they're good at and treat Thorne's return as a bonus.

Where is Useless Eustace when you need him, or Bob Malcolm: Ratty's hero?
