    Don't miss it

A new four-part television series looks back at the past 30 years of Scottish football and examines how the success and standard of Scotland's game has declined.

Featuring interviews and contributions from Graeme Souness, Fergus McCann, Terry Butcher, Sir Tom Devine and others.

'Scotland's Game' will be broadcast in four parts on BBC ONE Scotland, starting on Thursday 25 August at 2100 BST.

Yes, I watched it but what did last night's episode tell us that we didn't already know? It told us that our glory days are behind us; that the dinosaurs who ran Scottish football were content to live in the past, basking in past successes and expecting them to return; that, through a reluctance to accept that Scottish football was no longer a major force in football, clubs lived well beyond their means. This was particularly true of Rangers who were the architects of their own demise; and that the only person with a realistic grasp of what was happening in Scottish football was Fergus McCann who was vilified at the time by the press and Celtic supporters alike for not plunging Celtic down the same precipice to liquidation as Rangers. How prescient he proved to be. It told us that there are none so blind as those who do not want to see and that Scottish football simply doesn't want to see.

Of course he does. He earns a very handsome salary out of football. He's not going to knock it. Would you if you were in his place? He tells the fans what the fans want to hear. In the same way you'll find that some reporters are expressing a rather optimistic view of Celtic's chances in the coming Champions' League. Do they really believe what they write? I very much doubt it but the fans don't really want the truth so sports journalists will write any old claptrap that sells newspapers - that's their main function, selling newspapers. None so blind............

...as those who will not see. Agreed, Cresswell. Queens are making progress though. Let's be thankful for small mercies!

So Neil Lennon thinks that Scottish football is on the way up. How many of you noticed that over this weekend, the games involving Rangers (away) and Celtic (home) excepted, there were attendances totalling 13,335 at the remaining four Premiership games? Yes, that's right, 13,335. That's not 13,335 at each game but 13,335 in total (ranging from 1,609 at Hamilton to 4,919 at Partick Thistle), giving an average of 3,333 - in the so-called Premiership. If that is Scottish football on the way up where the hell is it coming from?

Cresswell, you are completely correct in saying that Scottish football has been blind and still is with regards to the hole that they have dug for themselves, - all that is left is for them to throw themselves in and the job will be complete!

However Neil Lennon is also correct, - but only if he was referring to the Championship. The Championship is a complete breath of fresh air and the crowds are reflecting that./ If only the dinosaurs could see that the Championship is far more exciting and better supported than the SPL! (certainly outwith the Old Firm)

Sadly, Scottish football depended, (or rather thought they depended) on the 4 old firm fixtures per season, its almost as if they consider that is the panacea to all their ills! If only! - Once they have killed off Scottish football, perhaps they will be happy with battering each other 4 times a season, providing their Neanderthal supports with the opportunity to berate each other based on some alleged spurious religious beliefs, while the rest of the world, including UEFA excludes them from partaking in any worthwhile competitions because they have destroyed their own leagues!
