Any foreign cash actually Andy...so holidays for one...any imports, including petrol which is priced in dollars and is already up by 3-4p per litre and although people haven't really started to buy it yet, or are still governed by existing contracts, LPG or domestic heating oil which inevitably follows the same direction as petrol.
Many respectable sources, including Mark Carney and the FT have predicted the cost of all imported food will rise and so it goes on.
All in favour of having a laugh Andy but somethings...Johnson as Foreign Secretary and Farage going out of his way to support a racist, mysogynistic thug in his campaign to be 'leader of the free world' are too embarrassing and terrifying to be funny imo.

The fall in the value of the pound is good for some and bad for others. Yes we'll all pay more for anything imported, but where there is a British alternative, we should buy that. Our tourist industry will benefit and all of our exporters. Foreign companies considering moving from the UK or not coming to the UK will now take into consideration the lower labour costs. Germany benefits from a low value Euro compared to a high value mark, if they'd kept it.

It's difficult to know whether we will all benefit or suffer in the long run.

Respect your opinions and I know I got the maths wrong maths wrong last week but I think you're mistaken on this one.

Actually I think you've gone and got the maths wrong again Mangara with your 20%. My Forex weekly advisory email refers to it decreasing in value by 15% in the 4 months since Brexit!! On the other hand my 15% may be against a basket of currencies and you may be cherry picking the greatest fall with your 20%.

As for Andy's question for examples about what imports are going up, one answer is bananas in Lidl! In practice you will never know cause and effect on simple things like foodstuffs, although the supermarkets may well use the exchange rate as an excuse to put up prices. In any import/export organisation there have probably been currency hedging operations in place for a considerable time before Brexit, and the true impact of the decline in sterling on consumer prices may well take a time to filter through. Fuel is a bad example as the price in dollars is volatile, regardless of the currency volatility against the dollar value, so you will never know.

The most obvious place to see the impact is in the price of holidays or air travel. Currency rate fluctuations are critical parameters which affect airline operational cost, since they can affect both the financial bottom line, yield calculations and pricing benchmarks. However as its not "holiday buying season" just yet we wont really see the impact on that until the typical immediate post Christmas rush of package selling.

We may be in a "phoney war" situation at the moment as we wait for the tsunami to hit the shores, whilst being able to see it in the distance, but it will eventually begin to seep through into our pricing since we are so reliant on imports. The stocks of non wasting product bought at lower forex rates (eg cars etc) will eventually be sold and then the bite will come. So wait for stocks to run out and hedging to run its course, then you will see the inflationary impact of the weakening pound. No doubt it will happen and I expect the CPI inflation level to rise after Christmas. It already has in respect of the cost of imported raw materials to industry as order books are refreshed.

Still as long as you avoid imported goods (or product that contains imported goods) then all will be well. Avoid buying holidays, cars, electronic goods, your power from the likes of EDF, and much of the contents of your supermarket and all is good. Grow your own food and buy British will help, although there are still imported costs in food concentrates, herbicides, fuel, transport.... OH I give up - just be prepared to spend 5% more!

One thing the Brexiteers can rejoice in though - with the pound weakening then the eastern European labour force can send less money home in their native currency, so they may **** off home!

But unfortunately Ram59, being a far from self sufficient Island nation, we import rather a lot. I agree there will be winners and losers but, again unfortunately, we appear to have voted for considerably more British losers than winners. You can ask anyone who has taken a holiday or filled their car with fuel recently. Would love them to be wrong but most of the experts are suggesting that this will have extended to domestic fuel (for those using LPG and Oil at least) and many items of food by Christmas. Shrewd move eh...a case of chucking the baby out with the bathwater yet again imo.

Just to cherry pick some information, the FTSE 250 is today at 17,816.87, compared to today 2015 when it was 16,917.34 (source google finance), so during what is undoubtedly an uncertain period (you won't find many Brexiters that didn't expect short term uncertainty), the economy is looking pretty stable, strong, and growing.

That of course doesn't prove anything, but it's easy to panic in the shorty term, and the gloom merchants (not aimed at anyone in this thread) will grasp hold of anything that gives them a "told you so, its all your fault, we're doomed" sense of achievement.

The same people who will see their standard of living drop in further, who will be hit hardest by the price rises and job losses that will come! meanwhile the elite who apprently the people ahve given a bloody nose to will carry on much as before...oh the irony!

Plus if anyone who thinks Farage, Johnson or Trump and their ilk give **** about those who vote for them then take a closer look at them, their lives and peel the scales from your eyes, they are using the frustration and desperation of people who feel they have not benefited economically to further their own political agendas, which don't match the people who support them!

No, the ones I know are all in work, some in leadership positions, some not. And I would be careful using the phrase 'fat arses' because some of the people I'm talking about are women and I wouldn't want you to be called out for body shaming......
