What was the reason why they didn't do the double in '54?
I can recall something about international call ups but I thought their stars were always overlooked in these instances?

Damn unlucky for a team that invented total football.
Yes, it was International call-ups that stopped them from winning the league. I've also read about our side gaining an unfair advantage down the years, winning trophies, but also watering the pitch.

Modern football and what do we see plenty of sides doing just to get that perfect surface?, yes, you guessed it, water the pitch, before the start of each half.

    Hmmm. I'm confused now.

When we won three league titles and an FA Cup in that decade, narrowly missing out being the first club to do the double that century, our hoofball style of football would surely gain no advantage from a watered pitch if the ball was in the air more than on the grass?

I must admit though, international call ups must surely play havoc with a title chasing club.

Look how it didn't affect Wolves, Liverpool, Man Utd, Leeds, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Spurs, etc, etc.

Don't the sides still end up playing the same number of games though?

Always the bridesmaid and never the bride springs to mind with them down the road!

I'm afraid not. But like a lot of things that annoy, after a time they fade into obscurity; in fact you have to smile at his juvenile actions.

Trust you and others on here are well; how do you see your season going? You need a run of good results. Sworry if that seems to be stating the obvious; we appear to have found the elixir of good football under our famous 1000+ games in charge coach. Cannot wait until tomorrow at Hull. Keep smiling

I cannot answer that question as no doubt you have seen Chuckle Brother No1 definitely knows that I am not an Albion supporter, and have seen a lesser number of games than one Albion fan who is Swedish and gets over probably two or three times a season. He knows you know!!!

It's a well known fact in sandwell that the years 1953-54 and 1978-79 produced the worst weather on record. Ever. Ever ever.

    Especially around the Birmingham area.

We must have missed it just down the road.

When you read the garbage he posts it's no wonder he has been banned so many times from so many boards.
