Thread: Challenge Cup Semi Final 2017

we seem to be replacing players with better quality players but am i missing a point here or something as iv listened to naismiths interviews and he talks about beefing up the sqaud as we have a thread bare squad who cant afford to have a few injuries ,im sure he will defo bring a few more in before the window closes but releasing players when one comes in doesnt cure the squad being thread bare when a list of injuries occur .

An excellent point Francis; we have without doubt improved the squad, - but we have no cover for any eventuality now that we have moved Pickard and Anderson on.

As JR suggests, - what on earth are we going to do for the visit of Dundee Utd - given that 3 of our best performing players are cup-tied?

It would make sense to bring in a couple of utility players who could plug the midfield gaps, but could also play in defence or attack if required.

Many might argue, - why bother for one game? - well apart from (the possibility of) scraping into 4th place in the league, the Dundee Utd tie is our only opportunity of silverware this season, - and we have one week to bring those players into the squad.

Finally, there is no point in bemoaning that your squad is threadbare if you simply release players right, left and centre, - as that merely perpetuates the problem. Naysmith needs to bring in quality rather than just balancing the numbers, - and that is the quandary he faces.

Agree Jardi but finding experienced players who are not cup - tied may be a problem - with 3 of the new guys out we are left with Marshall, Lyle, Hamill and possibly Dykes to fill the gaps plus a load of young boys on the bench - not an ideal situation.

i still expect there will be a couple still to be brought in ,naismith is bound to be looking around down south for players as he has alot of decent contacts down that way also and players from down south wont be cup tied ,or current spl players who wont be cup tied .
