So a new recruit - a new employee - a new relationship....( AS )....was given the keys to the safe and with checkbook in hand spent all the "adiquate budget" Rotherham United had for........

"championship" players and bought "budget" players......

    without saying:

"Hey boss this is what I'm doing and it will cost - this - that ant tuther"

And all this while TS & PD were playing scrabble.

Buying players - within budget - offering "Value for money" was done by a team that knew the game back to front and inside out..including Andy Holden - who served Everton for 19 years and John Doolan who was Wigan youth development coach - not forgetting Stubbs - a legend at Everton and a respected coach.....

Chelsea trusted him with Izzy and when Stubbs went - so did Izzy - to Huddersfield - and isn't he playing well!

And AS are now our best players - Adeyemi - Vaulks - Taylor - Forde - Fisher - Ball and not forgetting Issy !

Under Stubbs Ward scored 1 / 2 games and since Stubbs Ward has scored 1 / 6 so what does that say.

NW left our squad in bits during his cull of our players then ( eventually ) buggered off. Leaving us behind in our ***** planning of this season.

But never a word against NW - he's a firkin hero.

The players that NW left us was the defencive players ( that AS inherited ) ultimately let all the goals in - early season....Stubbs mixed and matched them in order to rectify their faults but didn't have time - he even dropped Halford and Wood after the Villa debacle but they had to play again due to injury.

Wood is playing better now but not commanding a solid defence and let's face it - he has to get something right.

Just can't buy this witch-hunt against AS when others are obviously culpable.

The point is - with all the rest ain't places upon him AS did a bloody good job - and was getting somewhere with better performances match on match.

AS was working systematically - assessing the squad and systems they could play within a 3 year project - only to have the plug pulled before he could develop a "team" - based on young talent - that he was brought in to do.

    Don't buy it - he's been made a scapegoat and that's unfair.

You & I must be in a minority of 2 lbj.

I won`t go on about NW he had his reasons for giving back word on the job. The club should have pushed him for an earlier decision & then moved on to appoint a new manager.
Once AS was appointed we were playing catch up, it was a question of player availability and money. Looking back at the player market late pre-season most clubs had their squads more or less set up.
Gee Evans moving onto pastures new didn`t help, the club were slow to appoint a new H.O.R. instead waited whilst late December to appoint Jamie Johnson.
It should be down to collective responsibility not blaming one man & passing the book.
I`m hoping some of the young lads that AS brought in stand us in good stead next season, they are just not good enough for the Championship.

I'm convinced Stubbs is a scapegoat for the mess but it's a results business and the results under him weren't good enough.

Time to lay Alan Stubbs where it belongs, in the past.

Eric, were does it say in The Star that Tony Stewart blames Alan Stubbs for poor signings ?

froggy, yes it is a results based industry ( ask Redders )

I usually like to give people the benefit of the doubt and try to keep an open mind but some of this comes across as damage limitation with one eye on Season Ticket reminders coming through the post next month.

Maybe it`s me being too ultra cynical and reading the situation wrong.

Understatement of the year my good friend. AS was appalling. 2 months to find a striker then goes and gets a free agent WHO NOBODY ELSE WANTED on **** loads of money . Over loading the midfield with mainly **** players .Although what ive seen of Vaulks recently could be decent in LG1 .Tactically crap and a boring manager, who never got me excited . Did it for me when he walked straight down the tunnel at Brighton after 6 hours trying to get there ,What a **** he was and i hope he rots in the conference somewhere .Good Riddance **** stain ..Hope that clears it up for you .
