All groups steal something from other songs, even in the 70's a group called Showaddywaddy took a couple of sections from "Under The Moon Of Love" and "Three Steps To Heaven" and "Heartbeat" and made them into hits.
Just because you Sample a couple of chords doesn't make you un-original

Never thought I would see Showaddywaddy and Oasis in the same sentence

I think the difference is les, Showaddywaddy never went round telling everyone on the planet that they were the best rock and roll band in the world and that they were going to conquer the planet.
I thought Showaddywaddy were more of a fun band than anything serious? I may be wrong.

I think Noel Gallagher sampled more than a couple of chords, after his rise to fame he admitted that he blatantly ripped off many riffs on the first album because he didn't really expect that many people would hear it. Fair enough I suppose.

Trouble is, when many people did hear it and Oasis were getting popular he carried on ripping people off on the second album.

The difference is Rory Gallagher was rock and roll.
Noel Gallagher thought he was rock and roll.

In my humble opinion Rory was the greatest blues rock guitarist that there ever was. Never missed any of his gigs when he came to Paris. He just about demolished any place where he played. RIP mate.

Showaddywaddy also were trend setters regarding the original clothes they wore, everyone dressed like them in the 70's before punk came along with their stupid zips and safety pins
