Can't justify signing more defenders when we only have Flood in centre mid, only Keatings up front and an unproven kid as back up for Bell. If by some miracle we move Donaldson on we may be able to afford a replacement but can't see that happening.
Durnan and edge get injured and we've got a make shift defence, great! lets be honest though, none of these guys would have got near our under 20's a few years back!

That's situation we're in. Looking around other squads in the division, they'd be in exactly the same situation if they lost their two first choice centre backs.

FWIW, Durnan made 46 appearances last and Edge made 41 (he obviously came in later) so injuries to both would be extremely unlucky.

Scobbie will slot in there comfortably with Robson going back in at left back. He was good enough for Tommy Wright to be gutted at losing him. He'll be good enough for us in the Championship.

So we still need at least one defensive mid that can pick out a pass and another striker but......

    Bell

    Murdoch - Durnan - Edge - Scobbie

    King - Flood - Toshney - McMullan

    Keatings - A.N. Other

They offered him a one year deal with a 35% pay cut,his wages were to be boosted by a higher appearance bonus but he only started in 18 games last season,he would have signed on again if they gave him the same as he was on.He will be a good addition for us but McKinnon must know its a massive gamble signing a player with 4 major injuries so far in his career.

Their chairman offered him a 35% pay cut correct. Wright had absolutely nothing to do with the contractual situation and if u read his interviews regarding the matter, he is more than pissed off at his chairman. He'll be next out the door imo. As soon as another club comes calling he'll be gone. He wanted to keep Scobbie. I'm happy using that as a reference when it comes to us signing players as opposed to someone's injury record or a tight fisted chairman's contract offer.

I agree 100% mate he is now the best defender at our club,he may only have been a back up player at ST Johnstone but in our current position he will if fit be one of the 1st names down on the team sheet.I would not be too harsh on the chairman of that wee club up the Tay though as on their tiny budget and a home support of around 2000 he not only keeps them up every year but manages top six and europe most season's as well.
