Celtic have released a statement basically batting the ball back into the authorities court.

They are toothless though and more importantly they are scared. Done **** all about sectarian signing and now we have MSPs looking to scrap the offensive behaviour at football bill because it targets those signing sectarian songs. What chance do we have?

I tend to agree with Celtic's stance. Put the ball into the court that it should be in, and let the SFA ignore/deal with it. If they don't do so within a certain timeframe, ie, a month, THEN bring in the legal eagles and along with the rest of Scottish football, let's bring the governing body to its knees.

But first of all, the SFA have to be given the opportunity to deal with it, however futile that may turn out to be.

Guys like Alex Thomson won't let this go, even if the Scottish MSM will

Yes where is Euromeister. Been waiting on him popping up on the Europa thread with his worldly advice on how i should be planning on getting to Bosnia or Khazakstan.

Scottish FA statement on Supreme Court ruling
    Wednesday, 05 July 2017

The Board of the Scottish FA notes the judgment of the Supreme Court and wishes to clarify the implications of this final legal decision from a football regulatory perspective.

In light of the Inner House of the Court of Session decision, the Board of the Scottish FA sought external senior counsel opinion to ensure a robust and independent consideration of all implications of today’s judgment.

The Board received written advice from Senior Counsel, amplified when the QC attended a full meeting of the Board to discuss his conclusions.

Specifically, Senior Counsel was asked to anticipate whether a determination in favour of HMRC, as announced today, could imply that there had been a breach of the Scottish FA’s Disciplinary Rules as they applied at the time of the EBT payments.

The clear opinion of Senior Counsel is that there is a very limited chance of the Scottish FA succeeding in relation to any complaint regarding this matter and that, even if successful, any sanctions available to a Judicial Panel would also be limited in their scope.

Accordingly, having had time to consider the opinion from Senior Counsel, and having examined the judgment of the UK Supreme Court, the Board has determined that no further disciplinary action should be taken by the Scottish FA at this time.

Well reading that statement from the SFA you have to wonder what was the question or questions which they asked. The statement is suitably vague and pretty much a whitewash. I had thought that the fact that they failed to disclose the side letters to the SFA which formed part of the player's contracts was a breach of the rules. Why can't they take action on that point alone ?

The SFA could have at least thought about it for a few days, but no, they couldn't wait to help out their beloved club.

    Why should we care

Why do people care what the SFA say or do?

The SFA have no right to do anything of any real consequence at this time. Only the SPFL can take any action on titles won as a consequence of the EBT's being used to get a sporting advantage.

Because the SFA are the governing body and it was them who granted the licence to play in Europe despite the fact that their rules about disclosure of contracts was broken. They could also influence the SPFL regarding the stripping of title position.

    Does that include Scottish cups?
