Donaldson is one of the last McNamara signings, i.e. identifying highly potential young talent, attract them to Tannadice with the shop window promise, pay them a good wage for a year or two and then sell them on for millions, bringing to the Club (or other beneficiary ??) great financial profit. Potentially great business strategy which should be part of a 5 year plan or something like that? Unfortunately the game is littered with young players who showed great football 'potential' but ultimately their development did not live up to their earlier promise for various reasons.

Donaldson would have been signed up on a good wage, potentially as the new Richard Gough. Donaldson was one of those who would have been invested in financially, hoping to get a much greater return further down the road.

Zeph Appledaughter, I must ask...'Are thou following the debate?' Much of the debate has been about what United are paying Donaldson. Suggestions range between £1300 pw - £5000 pw. Some are of the opinion that Donaldson is receiving something towards the lower end of the scale. I am interjecting with the circumstances surrounding the signing of Donaldson, which would suggest the lower end of the scale is very unlikely. I personally have no clue what Donaldson gets paid by United, BUT, I do think the circumstances surrounding his signing contributes greatly to the debate if for no other reason but to keep these things in mind for when we speculate!!

We can't know how much he earns and, let's be honest, it's an irrelevance. We all know we need to get rid of him, we all know doing so will allow us to sign a better player (or players). Speculating in his salary is pointless.

We can't know how much he earns and, let's be honest, it's an irrelevance. We all know we need to get rid of him, we all know doing so will allow us to sign a better player (or players). Speculating in his salary is pointless.

As often happens Trebs you intervene with the right focus. Whatever Donaldson is on (wage), his departure would allow us to sign another player (some speculate two!).

Possibly the fact that this was the norm yet the figure i was quoted was being dismissed by smeds
