When I was growing up the anchor on Popeye's arm was the only acceptable tattoo on display.
Tattoos covering large exposed areas of skin always fascinate me, more than piercings do as a mark of the moronic. Don't get me wrong it's personal choice but large tattoos are clearly an attempt at "look at me" attention grabbing.
The other weird thing is that many tattoos are purely fad and fashion of the day, currently "the thing to do" and many get one because a friend or associate has one. However unlike other fashions like flared trousers, piercings and beards tattoos are permanent so when the world has moved on to the next fad the tattooed are stuck with their fading art. Even more laughable is that the artwork that was once on a fairly tight canvas is now on a much more wrinkled background. It's sort of weird to have a 90 year old granny with "Megadeth rules" emblazoned on an arm or two.
Another thing that amuses me is regarding jeans. When I was a kid and got my first set of jeans I was over the moon with them, they sort of made me feel bigger and older. I wore the things so many times that I literally wore the knees completely out and sadly they had to go. Fast forward 50 years or so and folks are actually buying new denims with slits and no knees already in them as a fashion statement.
