The plan at Barnsley was to buy young, and develop and sell on, then "repeat"
Hecky knew the plan, and was prepared to take the job.
The "Repeat" bit is something that everyone but the owner has forgotten.
We were ecstatic when the plan worked, we got success, and two trips to Wembley and a promotion. "hurray, the plan works !!!! "
Of course, the players gave that magnificent season had developed under the plan and wanted move on ( as was the plan......a plan we all signed up to......)
Now the "repeat" bit
Nooooooooooo !!!!!
everyone but the owner now wants to change the plan.
The team in Blue and White down the road had a similar plan, Their second season back in the Championshp after we went down they could have gone down on the last day.
Non of their players were Championship names, players or standard last season. The highest priced signing ( only one )was £1.5 million. Rest were young loanees young foreigners unproven and unknowns. Their million pound man Wells played poor, few games and scored 8
They went up courtesy of two penalty shoot outs and a minus goal difference.
They put a team together and played a plan. Their manager had complete belief in his plan and never once came out and moaned after a poor result that he hadn't the rescources.
I Remember they spent very little on signings and loaned well.
I despise that team, you all know, but they had a plan. Didn't change it when they were at the bottom, and playing badly at first and the following season it came good.
Go out and buy some championship 30 year olds? No.
Remember the plan. Stick with it. If we go down, then we go down.
"Repeat" starts again.
Build a house cheap without plans...... it collapses. Changing the plans of a house costs money... so build a house to the plan you can afford.
