Just before Lukaku took the pen, BT put up a caption showing the placement of his last five pens, all to the keeper's right. It's impossible that Schmeichel wasn't aware of this, so which way was he going to go? Obviously to his right, he'd have been a cretin not to. Lukaku must have known that Schmeichel knew this, so if he had half a brain he'd have put it anywhere but to the keeper's right. But no, Schmeichel dives right, as he always was going to do, and Lukaku obligingly puts it to his right, a comfortable save. Sometimes you wonder what some players have between their ears, certainly not brains.

Hope that was all perfectly clear.

Indeed he should norder, but I think those days are almost gone, it just doesn't happen anymore. He moved so early though, as you say, you have to wonder why Lukaku didn't see it and put in the other corner. Either he's thick as pig****e, or not as good as he thinks he is.

true that a keeper can dance around "on" the line a little....but can in no way move as early off his line, to his right, and so far forward as Schmeichel did....ref was blind not to see it.
Without that early move....ball would likely have hit the back of the net.

I don't think so Norder, he moved to his right, Lukaku put it to his right, he saved it. It was easy for him, he knew where it was going.

On moving off the line, I've seen keepers do it and save penalties in Europe when they have those useless officials standing like lemons next to the goals, and they still haven't done anything about it. Virtually all keepers do it now, none of them are penalised when they save one.

....he excessively moved off his line Sinkov - Yes, Smechl moved to his right and yes it was an easy save for him - but we don't know what was happening in Lukaku's head... he'd have his plan, he'd be looking at the ball...but when did he look to goal...did Schmiechel's move from the line cause some split second hesitation to bring weakness to his shot quality, or upset his formula etc....I honestly dont know.
However - what I do know is....rules are made so that a keeper doesn't gain the advantage over the shooter, and with so obvious an infringement as this, the pen should have been retaken....I also know that if a keeper took that amount of space and moved that early against a penalty of ours and went on to save it without any reparation....we wouldn't be happy.
...and perhaps if M.U had drawn, or lost by a goal, more would have been made of it that the little that has been.

...they do get away with it, but rarely to this degree imo.

Ball seen over keepers shoulder - and still on the ground.

Disclaimer: I have no leaning and also care an equal nothing for either the above characters.

    Cheers.

Honestly, I did not put up a caption showing the placement of his last five pens!
