Following our usual process of bringing in players that are desperate to prove something I suppose Wells fits that bill.

Not wanted by Huddersfield and low in the pecking order there he perfectly mirrors our profile for wanted players.

    As for the others:-

    Midfielder Jack Cork--great buy.
Jonathan Walters--not so good from what I've seen.
    Charlie Taylor--good
    Phil Bardsley -good
    goalkeeper Adam Legzdins-good
Chris Wood--from the little we have seen very good.

Should there have been more buys, especially with so many going out on loan (the latest being Anderson), yes.

Better and keener observers than me would be desperately sorry not to have got a center-back and at least another midfielder.

Time, injuries, loss of form, niggling complaints and suspensions will tell the story.

We have a full four months to evaluate and then top up the squad if necessary.

I would have loved Sam Clucas to replace Boyd and I think we should have stuck at it but Hey Ho!

Some good dealing in the market and if we didn't manage to sign another CB then hey ho! as BT would say.

Reality is we are no further on than Wood- knackered wells is on the treatment table and so wont feature for several weeks- no talk of bringing in a CB so very lightweight there- what happens if we lose mee or tarka to injury or suspension?- not a good window for me, Hughes is a shrewder man than we all think off loading a couple of old crocks. Still we got all that money in the bank

We should have bought a centre back premiership proven ( though the catch 22 is a good one would cost a chunk of money and or a chancer is exactly that a chance at premiership level).

We should also have bought a good wide man with pace , to feed the front men ---- I still believe Vokes would get more goals with balls delivered with him running onto them instead of with his back to goal, looking at Woods previously he thrived on that type of delivery - hence why I think we missed a trick.

Wells is valued on Transfermarkt at £4.25m so to get him for £5 m is a steal - so long as he recovers from his ankle problem.
Gray was valued at £9m and we got double that and he was in the last year of his contract too.
Some good signings and Defour back from the scrap heap too.
Centre back may be a worry if we get injuries but can we recall loan players like Tom Anderson if that happens, I wonder?

We definitely strengthened the squad and still added more stock into the Dry Powder Room, it's like phooking magic I tell thee...

    Attachment 6340

Stop worrying about centre backs, we have Mee and Tarkowski with Kev Long to walk straight in if needed. If Long is then injured Wardy can move across and in comes Taylor at left back - simples!

We did however, manage to make one marquee signing...

Long now being the only recognised central defensive cover is a risk I didn't expect the club to take. Big decision leaving us weak in this position.

Overall I'm a little bit underwhelmed, but to be honest, not as much as I usually am.

Cork is an excellent addition, a fit and functioning Defour alongside him a bonus, as good as a new signing for me, because I was convinced we were going to lose our best player.

Wood potentially an excellent replacement for Gray, who had become a liability. Wells I just don't know, at the price there's nothing to lose by signing him, but Dyche has simply taken a punt on him coming good at PL level. Walters, not really sure why we've signed him.

Taylor is presumably one for the future, no problem with that, but he doesn't immediately improve the first team. Bardsley replaces Derek, a bit like Walters, I'm not really sure why we've gone down the road of players way past their best.

The glaring omission is a CB, back up is Long and Taylor, that could find us out, overall I think we've improved the squad marginally and the midfield enormously, so in that respect I'm happy, but frustrated at the same time, as yet again we seem to have been so close to making some real progress, but have failed to do it.
