Jim McLean was eight years at Yinited before they won their first trophy.
The league cup final replay at dens park in 1979, and I was 32 years old.
Up to then I'd been singing yiniteds won feck all for years and years.!

Aye richt enough, but he steered the 'Wee Jim Team' (I don't know why you lot miss out the 'Jim'?) to their first ever major cup final in a little over twa' seasons.

    Yep.

Leaving McLean being a horrible human being and trying to shut Dundee down once if not twice to one side for a minute I wonder if the dabs went DOON instead of us in the first premier league we would have tried to get McLean?

He was never seriously considered for the Dundee job from all I've read and been told from people who know a bit more than me but after learning his trade at the wee team we may have considered him.

    Sliding doors.....maybe yeah maybe no.

On the chant thing. Fitba fans are always adabtable.

United's won **** all then one ****ing honour then the honours of you they add up to two, then United and hampden don't go then petula Clark.

Whose gonna be giving it 6-5 6-5 6-5?

We are favs at the moment😊

John prentice the Dundee manager was mcleans mentor,
McLean copied John prentices football philosophy and it must be said a few ideas of his own.
Difference was John prentice was a gentleman, and McLean was a bully and a greeting faced wee chunt, although I did enjoy
The scenario when he punched the reporter, think it was John Barnes ?

It was, would have enjoyed it more if the much younger and fitter Barnes smacked him back.

The young Jim's coaching efforts at Dens were well recognised by at least the successful Dees team at that time. I know that first hand. Wee Jim would never have worked with/for the Dees Board at that time. This was well known amongst the playing staff. Whether or not this led to him being considered/not considered by the Dees Board I do not know. I was told by a key player in the Dens team at that time to 'watch United go!' after Wee Jim was appointed manager at Tannadice.

I have no hesitation in concluding that but for the Dees Board at that time and its relationship with Wee Jim, the ensuing successes at Tannadice would have been your successes. In pure fitba parlance...'Yous wiz robbed!' It would have happened sooner at Dens too. You had the players and style of play to make it all happen. You shot yourselves in the foot.

And yes, John Prentice was a gentleman and a loss to Dundee FC too. Selling tartan in Canada or managing the Dees? That was his choice.
