Made me smile Swale, so I'm probably older than you! I think M*A*S*H was one of the first comedy (but in a subtle way serious) TV programmes I liked back in the 70s. Black comedy was a new thing back then, and it appealed to me big time. I think the TV series was better than the film, although I did enjoy the 'carpet and curtains' scene with Major 'Hotlips' Houlihan when I was a naïve ****ager back then!
