Crazy low valuation in today's market.

Van dijk is not twice as good as lascelles.
    yes he is

you only have to look at the differance he made to both southampton and liverpool
a odgy start at liverpool but after 2-3 games he changed their whole look
lascelles is good but he isnt a top defender

He isn’t a top defender yet but if he continues to improve he will be and probably a better long term prospect Van Dijk is 27 next month.

The thing is most teams rarely move on. Most teams generally fall by the wayside or have a forward flutter.
Very few hold their fort and those few are always the elite clubs who are basically allowed to flout rules whilst robbing every other club of their best players.

All we can ever hope for is flirts like we've always done post 50's.
The entire premier league barring the elites are all in the same boat.

    age is not important

at those levels you are buying the finished product over the length of the contract

    Virgil has made those standards

I reckon lascelles could hit a glass ceiling here with us

he would need to challenge himself
    without being a bench warmer
he is in a very difficult position

people say he is a leader

look at what he is leading

in the most a lot of quiet go along with it type players

I wouldn’t put Shelvey, Richie, Diame and Dubravka in the quiet go along with it type of player category.

dubavkia cant speak English as far as I'm aware
    diame wasn't a regular starter
    Ritchie would be a shout

    shelve to

so two out of 17 each game is a pretty low level when you think of old teams

There’s a lot more to bring a captain than shouting at a few unruly players and keeping them in check. I think the lad has done well since he came and if teams are willing to pay mega bucks for him then they must see something in him to warran that

We will never ever challenge the top six clubs anymore so if we could get over £30 million for him then I would be inclined to take the money with a big IF.

That the full money is paid upfront and not over 5 or 6 years. Selling one of our best assets and getting £5 million a year back is no use to anyone other than Ashley to manipulate the end of year profit.

You might be right, Ghost. But it wasn't long ago that we were competing with the Top 4 and playing Champions League. I'm not saying it will happen again next season, but if we can convince key players to stay and have a few good seasons under a manager like Rafa Benitez, with the willingness to spend some bob we could get back into the mould. Maybe not forever, but for a while. Money may rule football, but it's still possible for anything to happen in football, like Leicester winning the league out of nowhere (I know you think there's some conspiracy surrounding that).

Well if he can’t speak English I think we need to take our hats off to alll of his defenders for learning Slovakian in such a short period of time as they also seem to understand the orders he is giving them on the field.

You talk some shyte at times mate
