I'm surprised at that. Chairman Collins is only kept in power due to the Labour supporting areas close to the city. If he expands into Tory country that may change and with any luck he will get kicked out of office.

Not if he just gets Beeston and Hucknall as CBP suggest above. Would suit him nicely and would suit Kay Cutts equally nicely to have them out of the proposed County area. Nice little carve up between them.

Fair point, but let's also remember Gedling is Labour. Out of that, Netherfield, Carlton and Arnold are really part of the city in all but name. So are Mapperley and Gedling, which merge with Carlton although Shearing Hill/Main Road/Arnold Lane forms a bit of a boundary. The bit that Kay Cutts could have is Burton Joyce.

I see from a NEP article that The Leader (they call him that if you phone GBC and ask for Councillor Clarke) wants to link up with Derby, no doubt sensing an even bigger gravy train than he has already, with his cosy links to various builders who are infesting Gedling right now. The rest of the council just seem to want to fend off the County. Expect Clarke to get his way, he always does, whatever local people think. He'll be out with his cronies with placards impersonating a crowd of locals in fake news pictures in the local press.

I didn't really pay much attention to this until now, but the thought of linking with Derby is quite alarming, especially given that it seems dependent on the wretched HS2. Will Toton be the capital of this new state? I think we should go for an early Dexit.

Derby? This is the mob that has run out of money half way through a major road project on the A52 at Pride Park.
Work has been halted - cones everywhere, narrow lanes, a 40mph speed limit and new bridges abandoned.
    I've not seen a hi-viz for weeks.
It's not all bad though, the council has refurbished and recommissioned the fountain in Derby town centre. Six grand a year it's costing - not an enormous amount but these two stories came out on the same day.
Do you need qualifications to be on a council or is it mandatory to be a *half-wit?

*I hope the Phantom Post Deleter is happy with my removal of most of the asterisks.
You don't 'work' as a councillor do you?
