Raised and started her career in Detroit, MI so a special place in my heart for her. Maybe the greatest singer of her generation. RIP
My kind of music alright. I'm working a night shift in West Virginia at the moment [hence the lack of posts!]. it's OK, got books, computer games and the internet to make the time go by. Ironically last night I fancied a bit of Aretha so spent some time listening to her on Youtube and then come this morning see this news. Sad.
RIP Big Girl, thanks for the ride.

Great in The Blues Brothers.
Not my cup of tea but brilliant none the less.

burnley and n.ireland international
quoted many times as being burnley's greatest player..
I know I have seen him play a couple of teams, just can't remember the details. Every team in the North West seem to have their own "pet" great players back then.
Preston - Tom Finney
Blackpool - Stanley Mathews
Blackburn - Ronnie Clayton, Bryan Douglas
Bolton - Nat Lofthouse
I'm sure there were more, legends to a man!

Today Charles Aznavour took the long walk, 95 years of age. I thought he had died years ago but then realised I was thinking of Maurice Chevalier. Dooh!
Talking of Chevalier, the magic lyrics come to mind,
Each time I see a little girl
Of five or six or seven
I can't resist a joyous urge
To smile and say
Thank heaven for little girls
For little girls get
Bigger every day
Thank heaven for little girls
They grow up in
The most delightful way.
Those little eyes
So helpless and appealing
When they were flashing
Send you crashing
Through the ceiling
Thank heaven for little girls
Thank heaven for them all
No matter where,
No matter who
Without them
What would little boys do
Thank heaven
Thank heaven
Thank heaven for little girls.
The Democratic party would have him away for life now.
Simpler times.
Also gone Geoffrey Hayes, co host of the kids program Rainbow starring Zippy, Bungle and George, any one remember?
