    Nolan's pre-Lincoln interview

When asked about the fact some fans are calling for his head, he made some interesting comments. To summarise:

He thinks his achievements at the club have raised expectations.
The plan was always survival in the first year, top 10 in the second, and promotion in the third. We can still achieve that.
He's surprised that fans are calling for his head considering what he has already achieved and Notts' history of sacking managers.
If they sack him after losing three games, what happens if the new manager loses three games? Do we sack him as well? What good would that do the club?
He's not on social media, so doesn't see all the crap being talked about him. And he's glad of that.

    All fair points really.

I think we need to get behind the manager and the team to see if we can turn this bad run around. The time may come when we need to part ways and find someone else to take the club forward, but it's not after four games. I really hope he manages to turn things around as I've loved the last 18 months - it feels like we're building something for once (or at least it did until recently).

Just a shame we've got the toughest game of the season today and not Morcambe at home.

Still, Notts are full of surprises.

    Agreed
Whilst things aren’t going to plan
It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if we were to get a result today at Lincoln
Ten games into a new season will give some indication of a teams credentials and where we need strengthening
We were always going to be able to score goals with the firepower but there was a question behind whether or not we could not concede up the other end of the pitch
Still a long way to go

Whilst that’s all sensible before a game, folk feel very different after a game. Its not so much the losing, as the way of losing and the fact Nolan can’t seem to see what is obvious to most fans.

    We’ve never replaced Yates.

    The back four are awful.

The keeper isn’t as good as the one last season.

If changes were made to effect the above, rather than shuffling the forward pack perhaps fans would give him more credit.

I’m not in any way advocating the removal of Nolan. Just that he needs to start making changes that fans will see as progress....

... I'm not sure supporters understood clearly about the three year objectives - survival; top 10/consolidation; promotion - although common sense would suggest this approach. Over-achieving in year 1 naturally leads, by some, to forget the original plan and from the outside supporter view you would want promotion if it's within grasp.
So now we need to stay calm and get back on plan. The manager needs to get on with his job and make the necessary defensive adjustments. COYP

Those targets have changed surely after the money spent on players pre season. AH has even said himself when interviewed on radio red before the Col U game that because of this the target for this season has to be promotion … maybe he just hasn’t told Nolo yet?

Last season both Alan Hardy and Kevin Nolan surpassed expectations in their respective roles. This season we, as fans, expect to see some improvement, but give the guys a chance.

He never convinces me in interview and this one is no different. He's only ever a moment away from trying to push the responsibility elsewhere whilst saying all the right things and I get the sense he has a rather high opinion of himself. As a footballer he has the right to rate himself, as a manager he doesn't.

I note the tone has slightly changed, more defensive. Understandable when your job is threatened. Before it was "look at what we've achieved" now the "we" has been swapped with "I". This is where I obviously see history different to many others. Firstly we weren't definitely relegated, and no-one can tell me we were certainties for the drop.

Secondly I fail to see how it is so difficult to turn a club round over one summer. Fundamentally few sides are that bad (or good) that they can't be turned round with 4 decent new players. He talks about it as if it's a near impossibility, it isn't, and many clubs before have proven this.

One thing I agree with is it's about deciding if a manager is right for you and then sticking with him. Problem is for some time I have believed he isn't the right man for the job, recent results just confirm this belief.

Still wouldn't be surprised if we turned it round today, that's football.
