    Random Fitba Facts Thread

I read last week that Stockport County changed their colours to blue and white styled strip with black shorts after the 1978 world cup in tribute to Argentina.

Then the Falklands broke out in 1982 and they decided Argentina were not so good after all and ditched their colours and went back to the old all blue kit

Very rule Britannia attitude. For this we can think Stockport are closet huns

On the train from Central station to the Scotland v England fixture at Hampden in 82, Scottish fans were singing, to the melody of Drunken Sailor, "What shall we do with the Argentinians?" to which the tag line was "Bomb bomb bomb the baastards". Huns are not known for their support of the national side. Jingoism, at the time, was more prevalent than you might think, and one had to watch what one said in some circumstances.

The second best song about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9gDSxJpH_o

It was frightening at the time to see just how powerful English warmongering propaganda could be.

So you wanted the fascist Argentinian dictatorship to win the Falklands war?

You kind of need to know how the whole thing started........ the strategic withdrawal of ships contrary to intelligence.

The most expensive election campaign in history.

8 June 1983, the night before the General Election, Neil Kinnock, when he still had some credibility, responded to a cry of “Thatcher’s got guts” with, “It’s a pity so many had to leave theirs on Goose Green to prove it”, which chimed with the feelings of many.

That slimy flinching coward, and sneering traitor David Owen described it as, “descending from the politics of the gutter, to the politics of the abbatoir”. What a bitch.

A pretty shameful time in UK history, all in all.

Staying on the subject of fascist b’stards but bringing it back on topic, here’s a fascinating fact about Rangers. In 1883, the SS Daphne flipped on her side during the launch, resulting in the death of 124 of the workers still on board. Two of the biggest clubs at the time, Rangers & Dumbarton, played a charity match with the proceeds going to the families of the victims.

Rangers kept their share of the cash

India pulled out of the 1950 World Cup because FIFA told them that bare feet were prohibited

They have never came close to qualifying since
