Waterschei Thor's sweeper in the 1983 Cup Winners Cup matches was one Lei Clijsters. Two months after the matches Lei became a father to newborn daughter Kim, who would go on to win four tennis Grand Slams in the early 2000s...
    I like that one now.

Harry Yorston, inside forward in the 54-55 Division A winners’ team, left fitba to become a fish market porter, as there was mair money in it.

Nat Porter, who played for Peterheid and Keith, didn’t. Funny old world.

As regards my previous post regarding Thor Watershcei (I incorrectly typed Waterschei Thor previously), this isn't so much a fitba fact (because I can't prove it) but a supposition...

It is my belief (and only my belief and not an accusation) that, for whatever reasons, Thor Waterschei received payment to lose the 1st leg of the European Cup Winners Cup

What is a fitba fact is that one year before the semi-final in 1982, Thor Waterschei had been found guilty by the Belgian football authorities to throw a match against Standard Liege after receiving the Standard players match bonus payments...

Belgian football, as with much of UEFA European competitions in the 1970/1980s was riddled with corruption. Bent referees accepting gifts, players accepting gifts etc...whether that continued on into the 1990s and beyond I don't know but we can probably assume as much..

Anderlecht were later found to have bribed their way to 1984 UEFA Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur when 'loaning' money to the referee in the semi against Notts Forest

Thor Waterschei would merge with Winterslag in 1988 to become Racing Club Genk

When Keith beat Rothes 8-3 at Kynoch Park in 1967-68, eight different players in Maroon scored the eight goals, or at least Keith fans assume that that was the case, for we couldna see **** all for sna blawin blin drift, so badly that we're nae even sure that Keith played in maroon that day, or if Rothes turned up, since we guessed the result from the little we did see and had it confirmed by that night's Green Final.
