I'd ban boxing first of any recognised sport.

Deliberate attempt to injure someone badly - just can't be right.

But of course horses love jumping fences with friggin great drops on the other side, that's why you see them leaping over fences when they are in fields. Horses leaping hedges and kicking their back legs in glee!!! See it all the time.
Where do I start with that pile of sh!t? I can only take it step by step. Firstly, no the world wouldn't end because racehorses are no longer bred, but where do you draw the line? Greyhounds die racing, should we ban that as well? Marathon runners die in races, so let's ban all marathons. You then say "But of course horses love jumping fences with friggin great drops on the other side". How many fences have "friggin great drops on the other side"? I could answer it for you, but I prefer to see if you know what you're talking about or are simply an ignoramus on the subject. Have you ever watched a race? What does a horse do when it unseats it's jockey or falls? Again I know the answer, but I would prefer to hear yours first.

As you know it is the racing capital of the north and though it is a small town there are numerous racing stables all over. Trainers like Phil Keniry, Ben Haslam, Simon West and Micky Hammond plus the massive yards of Mark Johnson and many more.
All day horses are moving about the town on their way up to the gallops which are immense, the work riders are so polite and friendly and always speak to you.
Plus there is also the fantastic scenery and walks.
Thought you might be interested, apologies if you have already been.
My old stomping ground! I used to vanish over to Middleham for the odd 'lost weekend' when I lived over in Swaledale. Have fun up there

I know I use the term 'drama queen' quite often, but you have just shot to the top of the leaderboard! So if horses really are " in terror every time they are forced to leap", why when they have no jockey on board after a fall or unseat do the majority of them continue to leap, rather than simply stand and nibble the grass? And using ridiculous phrases like "a leg smashed into pieces with bone gaping through their flesh" just makes you look silly.

Your point would be made better if you stuck to facts rather than high drama.

    I agree.

And now we have strong evidence (and, I think, it's generally accepted) that head blows in boxing cause brain damage that only reveals itself years later. Look to Cassius Clay for an example of that.

A sport that results in severe injury, distress, and death to thousands of innocent animals is an atrocity. We, as a civilized society, should NEVER accept it.

Even so, horse racing should be stopped. To continue is to perpetuate horrific atrocities on an innocent animal that has no say in the matter. It is shameful and should not be tolerated in today's society. 100 years from now, people will look back on horse racing and wonder how people could be so barbaric.
You don't know what you are talking about, thousands of innocent animals??
You are obviously only on here to cause argument or disruption like your racist rants earlier.

Julie Camacho has trained Elite horses for many years, and she had a cottage on the outskirts of her yard in nearby Norton which was offered to Elite Racing Club members at a discount. It was as you describe, the whole place revolved around horses.
Doesn't Richard Fahey and David Barron train at Malton also, I have been there but it was a while ago.

Elsie, those ARE the facts. How many of those horses listed on the Horse Death Watch website first broke a leg and was subsequently destroyed?

It's absolutely barbaric and totally shameful.

We need to stop this horrific excuse to gamble right now.

What will it be next, Elsie? Bring back gladiator fights? You probably think bull fighting is an entirely respectable pastime, as well, don't you?

[QUOTE=RhubarbPie;39050242]The only solution is stop horse racing.

An Act of Parliament is needed.

Don't hold your breath because it won't happen. Thousands of jobs would be lost for starters. Trainers, Jockeys, stable staff, Farriers, breeders, caterers to name but a few. Plus it has Royal approval, no chance.
