I think we may be needing a team of Jamie Turleys, rather in the manner of the old Ricky Ravenhill chant....

I’m not so convinced by Ward, but I’m sure having two rugged centre halves in front of him has also helped Fitz’s confidence and much-improved form in recent weeks.
I think both James Turley and Elliott Ward coming into central defence have certainly helped protect Fitzsimmons.

James Turley (The Hulk) is the type of central defender we’ve needed at the club for years. A big solid no nonsense hard working and committed central defender. Does the simple things well and was hard done by against MK Dons which was cleared and unlucky with the own goal last week.

My main concern which I mentioned on another thread earlier this week is as you point out our wide players have little or zero ability to stop a cross. I don’t know if it’s just Notts or part of modern day football, but I don’t know why or what coaching methods allow balls crossed into the box when stopping and blocking them must surely be the better option?

Yes I was there. It does not help because you are blaming Turley for a bad refereeing decision.

The decision was overturned so why you still blaming the innocent.

I've just seen the first Port Vale goal and Matt Tootle's defending is a perfect illustration of the poor full-back play which is causing many of our problems. He starts off too far away from the winger and instead of closing him down he backs off further, giving the attacker even room to curl the ball around either side of him. Sometimes our full-backs leave so much space that wingers could probably even flip the ball up and lob it over the full-back's head if they wanted! They might as well not be there at all.

Get tight to the winger for Christ's sake! I'm not saying dive in and commit yourself, but get in the attacker's face and give him no space to operate in, and meanwhile our attacking wide player should be dropping back to double cover wherever possible. I've noticed that Hemmings really has made an effort to do this in the games I've seen, which combined with his goal threat is probably why Kewell likes him in the wide position, but Boldewijn needs to do the same on the other side.

He may not be the most gifted of plasters, but Turley looks like he actually wants to win every game - not sure many of the other players can say the same.
Spot on, I will always prefer a hard-working. but limited player, to a lazy superstar......I said it in Lambing Monthly.....Turley was superb

Toots was the one backing off, backing off that lost us the first goal......what happened to backs that actually put in a tackle 35 yards from goal?....instead of shadow-play to the edge of the peno box.....it's getting silly......tackle ffs

ps Ward also had a 'mare.....kick it into touch if you're not sure.....simple

Ian Richardson, Paul Harding, Luke Rodgers, Alan Judge, Ricky Ravenhill etc. Notts County fans have always had time for players who visibly give their all week in, week out.
