To be clear, I'm not at all suggesting Trump is anywhere near Hitler. Just the fact we can end up with a wrong sort of leader who can do a whole of damage by employing the very same tactics that creep did in 1933. To be fair it wasn't so bad in 2016. Hilary was an equally poor candidate and Trump was more palatable given his promise on jobs, immigration and economy. But the levels he's stooping to ensure a Republican victory is deeply disturbing on the back of some really strange and improper policies he's implemented.
He's just lying and it's so obvious to everyone except his base and even some or many of those Republicans running know he's lying and stoking up fears and yet just to get elected they are prepared to let it slide. The Republican party is better than this or was better than this. Trump's tactics are a warning that in future you may end up with even worse candidates who seeing that this is the best way to win, continues this downward spiral. And we may end up with someone as disturbed or as bad as Hitler as US President.
The staggering silence of the party and the demonization of those few who have tried to warn against this - Flake, McCain and Corker is shocking.

And even worse, this recipe is now being copied by many political parties and candidates around the world. Just look at Brazil and Italy. The possibility that someone in Britain following suit cannot be discounted. Brexit is a quagmire, May is hopeless and Steptoe possibly even worse. The mood is ripe for a Trumpesque candidate to seize the initiative post Brexit and seize control of a major party and end up winning election. Only Macron in France bucked the trend.

Anyway besides all this doom and gloom, there was 1 race yesterday that stopped a nation. The Melbourne Cup. Here's the race won in a come from behind fashion
