As I recall the players were made out of card and it would not take much for them to be bent. I inherited my brother’s Subbuteo. It had the plastic red and white teams that could break quite easily. One thing I recall was the quality of the older pitch and goals. Much superior to the thinner and more flimsy later things. Being a football obsessed kid I was quite happy using that pitch and goals when I made up my own football games complete with leagues and cup competitions. I would also play whole test matches and competitions using those little plastic things and when I lost one of those adapting a pencil.
