As we keep saying on here that was a good time to be a fan wasnt it, the 1981 era.
It was the best ever for me acido, our team had class not seen since, exactly the same as yours..even though you got to the top league I reckon that team couldn't lick the glavin banks mcarthy era..two fabulous football teams Barnsley and rotherham then...

That sounds like a challange Villa mate lol, which of our teams were the BEST eh in the year of 1981 ?.
It also meant that much more to me as well because it was my first year of supporting Barnsley and going to 'the old' Oakwell as it was then. Ronnie Moore eh, ohh we did like to sing songs about him, and he loved it didnt he. He was a class act as a striker, no doubt about it. And I could wax lyrical about this era all night to be honest.

It was a friend I'd been at Mexborough Grammar School with who along with Banger had come up through your ranks. Unlike Ian he decided to stay on into the 6th form so signed senior forms two years later than him. He was a centre half and competing with Mick McCarthy for a place so no easy task and he never made a 1st team appearance. Double leg break shortly after that postponed game and the rest they say is history.

Aww thats a shame for any player Cam, but they didnt stand a chance did they if they were competing with Mick Mac in those days.

Didnt they have a trio of strikers Animal at that time... namely Ronnie Moore, & Tony Towner, & Rodney Fern ?.
And like I asked earlier between our two teams, who was the best all round squad at the time eh, in the early 80s.

The three strikers were Moore, Fern and John Seasman.
Towner was a right winger.....and the best in his era in the second division now the cship

About even I'd say , they won the league in 80/81 and we were runners up ....grrrr , still kills me to this day .

However we were better in the old second division in my opinion the following season , finished higher in the league and doubled em in 81/82 .

Nothing between us in all honesty .
