Take away the training ground. How can AFC Wimbledon build a 10,000 seat stadium in ultra expensive London for just over half the price of AFC building a 20,000 seat stadium in a farmers field on the outskirts of Aberdeen.
Have AFC Wimbledon got a good deal or are AFC being shafted?
The Kingsford site is 5 times the size of the Wimbledon one.
A more useful comparison would be the cost of the new main stand at Tynecastle. It'll cost them £2057 per seat for their 7,290 stand. So using that example it would cost us £41.1M to build a 20,000 seater.
They would have additional costs for demolishing their existing stand but the sums do seem to add up.
I’ve said many a time, I’m ambivalent to it.
I can see potential benefits from the project, but also concerned about the funds.
I’m still (maybe naively) hopeful that there is a solution out there that delivers the project and leaves the club with no debt.
Pittodrie’s been the club home obviously all my supporting life and I’ve seen many a great game there. I also watch the team many times on the road. Arguably the atmosphere is better on our travels than at home (other than the odd occasion)
But I’m not emotionally attached.
I’ve moved houses many times, always for positive reasons and if the club move house, I’ll view it similarly as a positive step.
I may take a shuttle bus to get there, but probably not. I won’t let where we are playing stop it supporting the club.
"The Kingsford site is 5 times the size of the Wimbledon one."
Aye, because its in a phucking field.
Do you think this is a good idea?
I'm sticking with my prediction that the new stadium is never going to be built.
Its 5 times the size cos it includes a training ground as well as a stadium.
The Kings Links would've been my preferred location and its a fvcking field just now.
I'll judge Kingsford when its built. I'm not going to start bubbling like a bairn if I have to catch a bus to a fitba match every 2 weeks.
