I liked McLean - but he wasn't as good as he could have been.

I dont think McInnes uses midfielders natural ability as well as he could and I don't think he can coach them well enough to do what he wants.

He has had out and out goal poaching centre forwards strung out wide expecting them to play like a winger.

And he`ll play anyone at full back. Centre halfs and wingers, before just going out and signing a proper full back.

He was playing well but he’d been here a lot longer than 6 months & for huge chunks of it, he was just poncing about.

I think the ability was always there, but needed the team to make the runs required to get the best out of McLean.
It was plain to see when the team were playing well, McLean was usually at the heart of it. If the team were not playing well, then McLean didn't have the same options to exploit.

Shinnie is a decent full-back. he knows the job.

When playing in midfield he tends to try to do everything. He runs around like a headless chicken and - as the best/worst pundits will say all day - the team loses shape.

Saying that - he WILL be a big loss - his energy and drive is nowhere else to be seen just now.

I'm pleased he's got a good move and will make a bit of cash.
