It is not hard to see where independence could make a difference at international level.Iceland were an even bigger joke than us until direct intervention from their government led to them qualifying for the Euro's and the World Cup,i cant see Boris, the Tories or anyone at Westminster rolling out the same model to their province in the north, can you?.

Perhaps Iceland are having an anomalous period as they have a good set of players at the same time. 20 years ago they were nothing, if in 20 years time they are still in the same position they are now then you are right, it's more than luck. I have my doubts though.

Belgium were the same, they were rotten 20 years ago but are ranked no1 in the world now.

Had a wee look at the Icelandic squad there and not too many play for the top teams in Europe. A few in the premiership, a few in Russia and the rest either spattered around other European sides or playing domestically so I reckon it's largely down to having a great coach, tactics and team spirit.

Iceland to me when I've watched them have always displayed an unbelievable amount of togetherness. Maybe Scotland should take a leaf out there book and do the same, too many players recently have taken the huff and pulled out or even retired because they were benched or dropped. Matt Ritchie (who I rate) is a prime example.
