Problem is there's only so much a club from a small provincial city can do while the two ogres from Glasgow exist. Even with a new man in the chair realistically we're still going to be playing for third place and occasional domestic cup wins season after season.

    It's a tough life being a red.
Of course as things stand it's third and hopeful cup runs but you missed out the Europe part, why can Aberdeen not expect to qualify for the group stage at the same ratio that Celtic hope to do with the Champions league? Even 1 year out of 3 would increase the money coming in significantly which in turn would enable the manager to strengthen and plan more productively than what we're currently doing.

Then with a better standard of player you can look to increase the ratio of cup success and increase the ratio for Europe to 2 years out of 5 etc. It all starts with one year getting to the Europa league group stages sadly and building from there, cup success are obviously what every fan wants but in reality to have a better chance of doing so you need a better standard of player with a manager who believes in attacking to get that outcome.

McInnes and Aberdeen haven't had the worst run of opposition in Europe, not the easiest but certainly not the hardest every year and we should be looking to be reaching the group stages after 5 consecutive years of trying under him but alas we haven't even broke through to the play off round as yet.

Yes, I'm completely with you on this. Irish teams have qualified for the group stages of the Europa League twice in the past few years ffs. Last year we lost to a Cypriot team lest we forget! That was a blinding chance too, as far as I was concerned at the time. As a Red Tv viewer from afar throughout McInnes' tenure his first full season was the best to watch, without question. Peter Pawlett was on fire for a spell...some folk say he inherited that side...I guess he did really.
