Does any of this matter any more? It's doesn't seem likely we'll leave, so we'll be staying and suffering the consequences.
Tory's will lose a spot election, and even worse: Corbyn will take charge of a coalition Lib / Labour government, destroying any current and future prospects we have.
All of our employment rights will be stripped back to the bare EU minimum to try and encourage industry to recoup the damage he does; that's less holiday, no redundancy pay, no minimum wage, no right to a fair dismissal, no deduction of wages protection, no union industrial action protection, no parental / paternity rights, reduction of maternity provision, loss of flexible working rights... good old friendly EU protection yeah?
Think Brexit is a risk? Just wait til that **** gets in charge.
Just to clarify for those who think the MP's are acting honourably.
17.4 leave 16.1 leave
constituency
406 leave 242 remain
constituency by party
Labour 148 leave 84 Remain
Tories 247 leave 80 Remain
Regions
9 leave 3 remain
by MP's
160 leave 486 Remain
I think I can see the problem, but I am a right wing/nazi/xenophobic/racist/little Englander
So I could be wrong
If we remain in the EU and it all goes tits up, the remoaners will still say it's the fault of Brexit.
Even though the people of the UK won the vote and wanted to leave the Government didn't.
To go out and vote for anything now would be of no purpose. Why would anyone vote again, just let the Government decide.
We disagree over Brexit MoP, but we’ve never been disrespectful to each other so I’ll respond respectfully.
‘Why would anyone vote again, just let the Government decide?’ I think that’s what Johnson and Rees-Mogg wanted but substitute ‘Government’ for Parliament and that’s the system of governance our society lives by isn’t it...Parliamentary Democracy.
I obviously don’t think it will ‘all go tits up’ if we remain but we’re still a long way from that...given the changing circumstances though there are two questions you might want to try and answer.
1. Why does the £ always rise as a hard Brexit becomes less likely and fall when Johnson, Cummings and ‘no deal’ appear in the ascendency e.g. the whole of the summer?
2. Why have Leavers remained so adamantly opposed to a second referendum? That was surely the way forward...a better informed public debate leading to a binding second referendum...but Leavers wouldn’t hear of it.
I can see things going tits up if Corbyn rides the wave of anti Tory sentiment and somehow contrives to get into power
Avoiding a ‘no deal’ Brexit is not synonymous with Corbyn becoming PM, Geoff.
Throughout this debate you have veered to and fro between Remain and Leave, sometimes mischievously sometimes very astutely, but this time please let MoP answer first.
It’s his thread and he is one of the few Brexiteers on here who makes his point without rancour.
One small problem, the people of the UK did not "win the vote", 37% voted and 52% voted to leave - they voted to leave on the basis that a deal with the Eu would to quote leading Brexiteers be "easy" and to quote another, by Brexit day we would have "40 trade deals agreed" That puts aside the lies about £350 million for the NHS and other such trifling falsehoods.
In truth it wasn't that the government didn't want Brexit, but that they wanted to leave with a deal as promised by the Brexiteers in the referendum would happen - in fact all along there has been a cabal of extreme right wing rich unaccountable people who have been aiming for a no deal Brexit, because that will be in their interests, but not in the interests of the Uk citizen.
And BUT for the machinations of those arch hard Brexiteers, the Uk would have left the EU by now under the withdrawal agreement and now we would be negotiating an actual trade deal, but no that wasn't good enough for them.
Now lets look at that Referendum, it was leave by a narrow majority, would it have been leave if the Brexiteers had told the truth? That we should leave without a deal and destroy this country's economy? I don't believe so, but even if it was, those 48% have a right to be represented and any Brexit should be a compromise, which means leaving with a deal.
