Daughter has also pre booked a hotel for the previous night before flying..... well attempting to fly! This will be touch and go wether to cancel, as they are all trying to find alternative flights as they booked their hotel separately.

    What a Thomas F*** up!

But apparently it's going to coast the government £600 million to bring everyone home but RBS, which is 60% owned by the government only wanted £200 million, so it doesn't look like good business to many people.

Plus the government did bail the banks out but won't bail any other British businesses out (because the banks control the politicians is the reason for that).

Same here after that carbon monoxide scandal their reputation just got beyond saving. I remember saying to my brother at the time they will go under sooner or later

I would have thought the govt will be claiming some of the cost back through travel insurance policies, Abta/atol, the holiday makers and underwriting by the credit card companies.

I don't see why taxpayers should fund bringing someone home from a holiday.
Surely all the govt are doing is bringing the people home safely. Who pays for it is a discussion for another day

They aren't all package holidays though. Some are flight only bookings. Flight only customers are not usually protected by ATOL but the Government has guaranteed to get everyone back, ATOL covered or not. The problem is that people who have booked accommodation etc. separately are not covered for those costs unless their own insurance covers it - not always the case.

Well we pay MPs and we instructed them to get us out of the EU
